Congratulations are in order for pianist Jakob Aumiller and violinist Hiroka Matsumoto, winners of ɬ’s spring Concerto Competition.

Aumiller, a student of Antonio Pompa-Baldi, won with Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, while Matsumoto, a student of Ilya Kaler, performed the Korngold Violin Concerto.

Both with have the opportunity to perform the works again next academic year, as soloists with the ɬ Orchestra.

“The ɬ concerto competition is always inspiring, and the spring edition was no exception,” said Scott Harrison, Executive Vice President & Provost of ɬ. “There was another outpouring of talent for our panel to consider, so we are particularly excited to hear winners Jakub and Hiroka perform with the ɬ Orchestra next year."

In addition to the winners, ɬ expresses its gratitude to all students who took part in the spring 2025 competition and to the four artists who served as judges: Dr. Francesca Brittan, Darko Butorac, Eliesha Nelson, and Amitai Vardi.

Bravi, tutti!
